Mach-ing haste

In your review of the Ford Mustang Mach 1 you refer to ‘the slow but rewarding process of changing gear’. Well, I think you missed a trick.

The gearbox in the Mach 1 is the Tremec TR-3160 and it can flat shift. Surely this wouldn’t be a slow shift?

Not a lot of people seem to know it has this feature, so it’s understandable if you missed it. I don’t own a Mach 1, by the way, and I’m not sure I’d have the bottle to flat shift it if I had paid £55k for it!

You can indeed flat shift, but it’s not exactly suitable for all occasions. – SG
