Mercedes C63 AMG Estate
An undesirable engine noise has been banished
IT PROBABLY SHOULDN’T COME AS much of a surprise, but a 6.2-litre V8, a measly 66-litre fuel tank and last year’s fuel supply crisis didn’t go together well. The possibility of a hike in petrol prices had always been in the back of my mind since I bought the C63, but I’d never imagined an outright lack of supply.
Thankfully, I’m rarely forced to use R55 AWP out of necessity, so during the shortage I didn’t have to regularly join the endless queues for fuel. Of course, now my fears about rising petrol prices have come true, but at least whatever
I put in the tank I mostly get to enjoy during B-road blasts, and even when I do need to make a more humdrum journey, at least I’ve still got the glorious sounds of that V8 for company.
For a while a minor case of the infamous M156 camshaft adjuster tick had occasionally made itself known, but last month’s major service, and specifically the oil change, has silenced all abnormal noises from the engine bay. And on the subject of oil, a small but ominous slick made a reappearance following a recent wash, acting as a gentle reminder that I should probably get those oil cooler seals seen to…
Although I don’t intend to cover many miles in the C63 during the winter months, I’m still planning to swap the not-so-fresh Goodyear Eagle F1s for a new set of Michelin’s Pilot Sport 4 Ss soon, ensuring I have just a little more traction for when conditions worsen. I’ll keep you posted about how that works out.
