Air of authority

I’d like to say a resounding thank you to Peter Stevens for his Design Briefing article on ‘Getting air in and out’ (evo 297). A potentially dry subject was made entertaining and accessible by someone whose knowledge is steeped not only in the engineering and physics but also in the history and surrounding culture of the car.

Normally I’m like Donald Sutherland in Kelly’s Heroes, preferring to drink wine and eat cheese when stuff needs fixing. Peter’s erudite yet utterly readable and entertaining article briefly made me interested in getting my hands dirty. It supports the adage that you really have to understand a subject to make it seem simple.
