Brighton’s Royal Pavilion has had a makeover. Its central Saloon is back to its 1823 heyday when King George IV greeted his guests before dinner. After three years of hard graft and £380,000, the room dazzles. There’s a hand laid, platinum leaf wall design, crimson and gold hangings and an eye-popping carpet of sunflowers, dragons and more. An upstairs display shows the craftsmen in action. A central room in the Pavilion, the restoration “gives a sense of how the place functioned, the whole design and the impact the room would have had on guests,” says project manager, Sarah Wilson.
