EDITORS NOTE
As the year comes to a close, the traditional mindset is to reflect on the past 12 months, the happy and sad moments, the decisions we made, and how they affected us—evaluating whether or not we made good use of the time we had and that another year of our life has gone by. Equally, there will be the anticipation of the year to come and what we will do or change in our lives. It may be a time you are looking forward to with excitement or a time you are dreading.
In our lifetimes, we have so many memories of the past, anything attached to a strong emotion we recall vividly, and all the other memories are usually vague. There are always regrets and wishes of turning back the clock, so we can relive and change some of the choices and decisions we made. But the regrets most of us struggle with are our relationships, especially with the people who may no longer be with us or with the valued relationships that have broken over time and we now miss.
Relationships with people are the true value of life. Fast forward to the time when it is our cue to leave this planet; it is our relationships we will be reflecting on. So my advice for the year to come is to focus more on the important relationships in your life; it is here, irrespective of what else happens, that love and peace reside, more than anything else we need solid and loving relationships in our lives.
Conversely, it’s important to identify the people who are a negative influence, the voices that never have anything good to say about you, the individuals who only see you as a route to get what they want. Sadly, it is the authentic relationships in your life that end up suffering because of these people.
Remember, true success and happiness are judged and achieved based on your relationships, value them, nurture them and spend valuable time with them.
