Well done Lewis Hamilton. Despite a low-key performanc­e in Mexico where, for the second year running, he clinched the title without being on the podium, he should be applauded for his achievemen­t.

He has drawn level with Juan Manuel Fangio and is only two adrift of Michael Schumacher’s record of seven, and this championsh­ip must rank as his best.

Yes, his Mercedes was one of the best two cars on the grid but for a long while he was chasing the tail of Sebastian Vettel’s Ferrari. The stand-out moment for me has to be Singapore, a race which even Vettel himself now admits was the turning point of the season. Keith Edwards By email
