Lewis in low light near ‘Spider Alley’

-

This shot of Lewis Hamilton was taken in the closing stages of this year’s Japanese Grand Prix. From experience I know that if it’s a sunny day, the low light can create a great effect and did so on the reflective silver paint of the Mercedes.

I’m actually standing on the outside of 130R shooting in the other direction at the exit of the second Degner curve. Hamilton is accelerating out of the corner and he’s just about to disappear under the bridge where the track crosses over itself.

The route back to the pits takes you through a very narrow pathway known colloquially by the Formula 1 photographers as ‘Spider Alley’ thanks to the number of large spiders that line the route.
