What Are The Odds?

I often mention What Are the Odds? (WATO) and how I’ve used this amazing tool to help on my DNA discoveries. If you have an unknown group in your DNA test who all seem to link to the same common ancestor WATO can help find how you fit.

Create a free account in DNA painter and click on ‘tools’ on the top bar. You will find ‘What are the odds’ versions 1 and a new V2 beta. I’m using V2 in this example because it does some of the hard work for you!

You then need to enter the target name (which is the name of the person whose DNA you are using) the birth year and what you are trying to research. This can all be done by hovering your cursor over the place you want to alter. Now add the names of most recent common couple you have identified.
