Try coastal time-tripping
A new and unique way to travel across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, when it is safe to do so, has just been launched, allowing travellers to plan modern-day adventures whilst exploring what life was like for communities of the past
Coastal Timetripping is a travelogue platform that allows people to plan trips, incorporating five immersive technology experiences. The new location-specific adventures allow travellers to ‘move through time’, experiencing Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly’s dramatic scenery.
Launched by Cornwall Museums Partnership, Falmouth University and Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly Local Enterprise Partnership, and funded by the Coastal Communities Fund, the five immersive experiences, in and around small coastal museums, are set to provide the timetripping and geographical adventures across the UK’S most westward destination. Via the immersive experiences, visitors and residents alike can traverse into bygone times, discovering the coastline, heritage and stories of Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.
Thanks to the new experiences, visitors can:
• take the wheel of a 1900s ‘Ketch’ at The Castle in Bude, in the far North of Cornwall, navigating the treacherous, wild sea, rocks and breakwater
• physically traverse the valley, beach and grounds of the PK Porthcurno – Museum of Global Communications, concurrently traversing time periods from the Victorian era to the modern day
• experience the harbour at St Agnes in the early 1900s
A online travelogue (www. coastaltimetripping.com) and accompanying Instagram feed (@ coastaltimetripping) provide in-depth information on all five places and immersive experiences.
All five experiences will be available for access and use by Summer 2021, with Porthcurno, the Isles of Scilly and Bude opening on 17 May , Looe on 7 June and St Agnes on 21 June.
