WHAT'S NEW IN DNA?
BIG CHANGES AT FAMILYTREEDNA
Familytreedna launched their new platform in July and they have made some major changes.
Personally, I’m most pleased that they will no longer report segments which are less than 6cms. This puts them in line with the other major companies and allows you to see more accurately how you may be related to your matches. When you login you may find your matches have reordered because of this change.
Other new/updated features at Familytreedna include a new look Family Finder matches page, improved matching and a revamp of their Y-DNA match page. They also expecting quicker loading with match lists and trees. Read more about it on the July blogs at https://blog.familytreedna.com/
HANDY IMPROVEMENT AT MYHERITAGE
One of the things I love on Myheritage is their ‘Theory of Family Relativity’ feature which uses trees to find possible common ancestors between you and a match. However, it can be really frustrating when you can see the theory is incorrect. Well, Myheritage have listened to the DNA community and have now introduced an option which allows you to confirm or reject it. A theory can be confirmed or rejected in two places: the Review DNA Match page, which includes a summarised view of the theory, or the full theory view – can’t wait to use it! VISUALISATION AID AT DNA PAINTER
For those of you who enjoy DNA Painter (and who doesn’t?) Jonny Perl has added a rather snazzy feature to the Shared cm Project. When you add the cm amount into the filter box near the top of the page you now have the option to view the possible relationships in a tree. I added 561cms into the filter box and clicked on ‘view those relationships in a tree’. The tree (above) shows how that match might fit into my tree: a really helpful feature which gives a visual representation to the chart. Find it at https://dnapainter.com/tools/sharedcmv4
