Privacy policy update at Myheritage
Myheritage have released details of an update to their privacy policy, with what they claim is a ‘highly unique’ promise to users
Earlier this year, prior to Myheritage’s acquisition Francisco Partners, they issued a promise to expand Myheritage’s ‘strong privacy framework’ for the benefit of their users; the updated privacy policy reflects this. Myheritage make the pledge that they never have and never will sell or license personal data, genetic or health data, nor provide data to insurance companies under any circumstances.
The highlight of the updates is ‘the unequivocal commitment not to license or sell genetic data to any third party’. Myheritage state that this is ‘highly unique among the larger genealogy and consumer DNA industry’. Family Tree asked genealogy expert Michelle Leonard of Genes and Genealogy for her thoughts on the updated policy. She said: ‘Myheritage’s privacy policy is straightforward to understand and includes a very clear unequivocal commitment to never sell genetic data – this provides important reassurance for anyone wishing to test with or upload to the site.’
