Did your ancestor attend a private or grammar school?

-

Well-known private or grammar schools may have registers of students dating back centuries. In some cases, records of these fee-paying schools have been formally published and local family history societies or archives will know how to access them. For example, Wolverhampton Grammar School has published details of former pupils dating back to the early 16th century. In the case of Eton College, the school retains its own records from as far back as the 11th century but the archivist can be contacted for advice: https://familytr.ee/eton. The same is true for many other schools of longstanding such as Harrow and Winchester.
