Family Tree

Are you ready for the 1921 Census?

- Helen Tovey EDITOR helen.t@family-tree.co.uk

It’s not often that we get the chance to sink our teeth into a brand new census release, and the 1921 Census has a particular poignancy for family historians with England and Welsh ancestry, very aware as we are that the 1931 was destroyed, and the 1941 was never taken. (The next census we’ll see released will be the 1951, when we will all be a little older and wiser than we might like! – although those with Scottish heritage can look forward to a 1931 Census of course). So this 1921 Census feels like a big deal and something very well worth celebrating. To that end we’re arranging a 1921 Census Celebratory Conference, taking place at a screen near you (i.e. online) and are delighted to bring together a panel of experts who will help to immerse us in the lives and times of our ancestors from a century ago.

In the meantime, I’ll be checking my tree, and checking it twice, to make sure that I have all my family from the period present and correct, and ready to be searched for on 6 January – aka Epiphany, the day the Magi gifted their gold, frankincence and myrrh – and I very much hope that you will be gifted new nuggets of family history information with this brand new record release.

Thank you to all our subscribers, readers and advertisers through the past year, and wishing you all a very Happy Christmas and holiday period indeed.
