Join the US Census Community Project
Progress on making the 1950 US Census fully searchable is well underway, as more volunteers are invited to get involved
Join thousands of volunteers who are helping to make the 1950 US Census searchable online for free, as part of the 1950 US Census project run by Familysearch. By taking part, you can help people to discover details about their family that have been hidden for 75 years.
Following the release of the 1950 US Federal Census, volunteers have been working on a free searchable index of all 151 million individuals included in this valuable record. They are working to review and improve the automated index created by Ancestry using handwriting recognition technology to ensure that it is complete and accurate.
You can get involved from anywhere in the world in one of three ways: a name review – where you match a single name on an image; a family review – where you focus on a family group; and a header review – where you review the information at the top of a census page and compare it to the index, fixing anything that doesn’t match.
