A cinema celebration

- Doreen Knights

Our celebration took place in a cinema! Why? Because earlier in the year we entered a competition, run by the local cinema which was showing a film titled The Black Tulip. The prize was to watch the Coronation at the cinema.

Fat chance, we thought. However, we did win a family ticket!

The instructions were to bring all the food and drink we would require for the whole day and to arrive at a certain time. I cannot remember how many the ticket was for, but I think five of us attended.

The cinema was packed. The doors would remain closed until the entire Coronation was over – apart from emergencies, of course.

Any disturbance would result in being ejected from the cinemas, but I do not recall any trouble.

So, not only did we see the event on the big screen, but from a comfortable seat – not out in the drizzly damp weather and able to fully enjoy the whole ceremony, not just a glimpse of the passing carriages.

A fond memory indeed!
