A team of French scientists are using albatrosses (below) as spies against illegal fishing. They’re equipping the big birds with tiny electrical monitors that scan for radar on boats, and look for any that have their location signal turned off. If any are trying to keep their location secret, police will go out to investigate. Albatrosses have been chosen for the mission because they can fly huge distances at a time. Plus they will often head for fishing boats, which they see as a source of an easy meal.
