A Bri­tish univer­sity stu­dent, who was sen­tenced to life in prison af­ter be­ing found guilty of spy­ing in the United Arab Emi­rates (UAE), has been par­doned. A court be­lieved 31-yearold Matthew Hedges was spy­ing for the UK Gov­ern­ment, but he has de­nied the charge and said he was just do­ing re­search. The UK’s For­eign Sec­re­tary, Jeremy Hunt, said the par­don was “fan­tas­tic news”.
