SCHOOL’S OUT FOR TEACHERS
A NEW survey shows that almost half of teachers consider quitting their jobs within ten years.
The survey of 1,200 British teachers found that most teachers begin work intending to stay for a long time, but their enthusiasm is worn away very quickly. The Government has suggested teaching conditions could be improved through reduced workloads and higher pay.
However, the authors of the study point out that the type of work, not the amount, is the key issue. They say a major part of the problem is the heavy focus on tests, which takes away from the creativity of teaching.
