World’s largest rainbow trout farmer wins BAP
CLEAR Spring Foods has become the world’s first rainbow trout farmer to earn Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) certification.
All of the US based company’s domestic rainbow trout farms attained BAP certification, the Global Aquaculture Alliance announced in early June.
Founded in 1966, Clear Springs Foods is the world’s largest freshwater rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) producer that uses raceways.
It’s a vertically integrated company that became employee owned in 2000.
South Central Idaho is home to Clear Springs Foods and thousands of natural springs, generated by the Snake River Plain Aquifer — an immense underground reservoir sustained through recharge from snow melt.
After filtering through lava rock, clean oxygenated water gushes from the Snake River canyon walls at a constant temperature of 58 degrees, providing the perfect water source for rainbow trout production.
Clear Springs Foods produces a variety of fresh and frozen styles of rainbow trout.
