Air diffuser with a difference
Fine bubbles create curtain effect for excellent efficiency, says Sterner
The RSB6 diffuser has been specially designed for introducing air into fish farm cages situated in open water cage locations. It has been built to enable delivery of fantastic performance and to withstand the harsh conditions of sea water with minimum maintenance and interference in cage set up. The RSB6 is made of a strong, woven polyester fibre material with an operating range of 1.2 – 3.6 cfm. Due to the bespoke design, the RSB6 is self-weighted and rigid, which allows for optimum use of aeration in the cage. Compared with previous methods of aeration, the RSB6 is extremely efficient due to fine bubbles, which can create a curtain effect when the unit is installed horizontally.
The placement and removal of the RSB6 diffusers is straightforward with SS lifting eyes. The RSB6 comes complete with 3/8in brass hose tail, making it extremely durable. The RSB6 has approximately 20in H2O resistance to air flow.
Connections
The RSB arrangement is to have a 3/8in hose tail at one end and a 3/8in cap at the opposite end.The air supply hose provided by Sterner is a 3/8in braided urethane hose or a very heavy-duty sinking hose.The hose is secured to the hose tail by a screw clip.
The male threaded fittings in the diffusers are manufactured in brass. The end cap and the female ring and tail 3/8in hose fittings are manufactured in brass and are supplied with the diffusers as standard.The diffusers can also be supplied with 316l stainless steel as an optional extra.
The diffusers are manufactured from a very heavy-duty polyester fabric tube. A nylon distributor hose runs down the centre of the tube. Between the nylon hose and polyester tube,
there is ballast comprising of spherical glass beads. The diffuser is banded using 316l stainless steel compressed on to the nylon inner tube with a nitride rubber bush and covered in blue compression plastic.
The diffusers may be used in seawater or freshwater, in soft water and water with a hardness and alkalinity over 2000mg/l.
Cleaning diffusers
RSB air diffusers, which are made of glass-bonded silica, are virtually indestructible and may give many years of service. The only maintenance that may be necessary is regular cleaning.
The frequency of cleaning will depend on the mineral and organic content of the water in which the air diffusers are used. In clean, cold, soft water cleaning may only be necessary every two or three years. In very hard water, or in water high in organics, it may be necessary as often as every two months.
