A GRANT of £20,000 has been awarded by Scottish Sea Farms towards a new play park in Oban, Argyll.
The Heart of the Community cash from Scottish Sea Farms will part fund the central piece of equipment in the play park development, which will take the form of a large ship.
The ship has been specially designed for the new park and will include a 6m high climbing tower, fireman’s pole, scramble nets and climbing rocks.
This is the first phase of a play park for five to 15-year-olds, costing £237,600. It has a number of supporters and fundraising is ongoing to create a separate area for pre-schoolers.
The park will be built beside the Atlantis Leisure Centre.
Lyndsay Elliott, chair of Friends of Oban Community Play Park, said: ‘At the moment, there is no park of this kind within a two-hour drive of Oban.
‘The main play park in the town was condemned and removed in February 2014. Without the incredible support of our community, including Argyll and Bute Council, Atlantis and Scottish Sea Farms, we would simply not be in the position we are today, and we look forward to a big party for everyone when the park is opened in autumn.’
