MINI SEMINAR
The seminar – titled ‘Is Norwegian aquaculture technology relevant in other parts of the world?’ – is organised by the Nor-Fishing Foundation, the Centre for Development Cooperation in Fisheries of the Institute of Marine Research (CDCF/ IMR), the Directorate of Fisheries, and Innovation
Norway. Among the speakers are Erik Hempel of the Nor-Fishing Foundation, who will discuss ‘the future of aquaculture: challenges and opportunities’. Trond Williksen of AKVA Group will address the topic: ‘the Norwegian aquaculture model – does it exist and is it relevant?’ – while Frode Blakstad of Inaq AS will look at ‘the value chain in modern
aquaculture’. Also in the line-up is EWOS CEO Einar Wathne, whose talk is titled ‘Feed – an obstacle to growth in marine aquaculture? Alternative sources of animal protein
for feed’. ‘Land-based aquaculture – the status of modern technology’ will be the subject of a talk given by AKVA’s Jacob Bregnballe, and Bjorn Myrseth of Vitamar will discuss ‘experience with the Norwegian model in the
Tropics’. Also contributing to the seminar are Morten F Hoyum of CDCF/IMR, examining
‘the practical application of the Norwegian model in the case of tilapia’, and Geir Lasse Taranger of IMR, who will investigate ‘disease transmission, current catalogues, zoning and risk
analysis’. The final speaker is Sigridur Thormodsdottir of Innovation Norway, who will provide insights into ‘connecting Norwegian suppliers to global
opportunities’.
