Blar Mhor plant sets a world standard
The Blar Mhor processing plant made history on 15 May 1996 when it processed 100,658 kilos of Atlantic salmon in a single day
It is probably a world record, it is certainly a magnificent tribute to the professionalism and hard work of all those involved. They were many, writes Ian Armstrong.
First and foremost, it was a tremendous achievement for which the two processing shifts deserve every credit. They consistently met the hourly targets throughout the long day.
There are many other reasons – underlying this achievement – for us to be proud of our ability as farmers, processors, distributors and sellers of quality Scottish Atlantic salmon.
The fish were supplied that day by Scallastle and Kingairloch from the 1994 yearclass, while Ardintoul supplied some typically large 1995 yearclass and made it possible to achieve such a high volume.
Some 3,737 boxes were produced and supplied to 48 customers in three continents: Europe, North America and Asia. Distribution of chilled fresh salmon varied from 12,000 miles away in Japan to just down the road to the Nevis Bank Hotel in Fort William.

systems colleagues enables the sales team to efficiently allocate and update orders from Edinburgh to the scale operators via the planning department. The information generated at packing provided the basis for the accurate and timely distribution system and initiated the efficient invoicing system that provides our income.
We will set other processing records as Marine Harvest McConnell continues to expand. But the first ‘ton-up’ will always be the best.
