Greek firm a Friend of the Sea
THE Greek fish farmer Kefalonia Fisheries has been audited and found compliant with all the strict Friend of the Sea criteria for sustainable aquaculture. Kefalonia Fisheries, which farms sea bream, sea bass and meagre, uses only floating cages with a semi-automatic feeding system to reduce the impact on the surrounding ecosystem. The distance between cages and seabed allows for seabed protection. Neither GMO nor growth hormones are used. The company produces eight million fries and more than 3,000 tonnes of fish per year, over 80 per cent of it exported.
