Fish Farmer

Grimsby may move into fish farming

-

GRIMSBY, for so long synonymous with deep sea fishing, could be poised to move into the fish farming business.

The possibility was raised when a delegation from the group Grimsby Seafood and Humber met the UK fisheries minister George Eustice and Neil Parish, chairman of the Environment, Fisheries and Rural Affairs select committee recently.

The visit, which included chairman George Krawiec and chief executive Steve Norton and the two local MPs Melanie Onn (Grimsby) and Martin Vickers (Cleethorpes), was organised to try to find ways of revitalising the Humber industry.

Norton said: ‘We are not talking about fish farms in the middle of the Humber Estuary. It would have to be primarily land based.

‘The farming of sea bass is something we could look at and also setting up a National Aquaculture Research Centre here.’
