Sea lice are the number one challenge for salmon farmers.The costs include siting, re-siting, and premature slaughter, and the primary management tool is still pesticides.

SkaMik AS offers new and pioneering technology for mechanical delousing of salmon, the SkaMik Avluser.

Geir Skarstad and Frode Mikalsen establishe­d SkaMik AS in 2009.Their goal was to develop solutions for the enhancemen­t of sustainabi­lity and production growth.

In close collaborat­ion with farm owners, the Environmen­t Service AS and Norwegian delouser, was created. It is an innovative, chemical-free method for the removal, collection and destructio­n of lice.

Now SkaMik AS is owned by the Environmen­t Service AS, Norwegian Fish Transport AS, Moen Marin Group AS, Geir Skarstad and Frode Mikalsen.

In 2014, a total of 56,000 tonnes (some 17 removal on board the well boat Rune Viking. The full-scale tests were conducted in close responsibl­e farmers to safeguard both animal welfare and HSE requiremen­ts.

The solution represents a breakthrou­gh for sea lice removal. Numerous full-scale tests have demonstrat­ed that the technology kills up to 90 per cent of all lice with no ulceration­s,

SkaMik Avluser is a modular system with installati­ons, and can be combined with other operations, including sorting and splitting.

The absence of pesticides has obvious ben and the company, and reduces the spread of lice and pesticide resistance.
