Salmon number one export via Heathrow, says report
HAVING exceeded 10,000 orders online, the start-up also received confident backing from associated companies, as it featured in Bright Foods and Xijiao International’s Shanghai flagship store in September.
Gfresh’s growing
number of global sellers is now more than 100, and include Alaska Ice (USA), Fiordland (New Zealand), Ralph’s Seafood (Australia), Bright’s Seafood (USA) and Do Lobster (Canada).
The company has also catered to this growing number of users by opening several new international offices. Locations are now across China and globally (Australia, Canada, New Zealand, USA, and East Asia). Adding to this, Singapore has become both a local buyer and seller market, supported by a Gfresh office.
Gfresh has developed a smartphone app and its website offers both English and Chinese versions.
The ‘Regular Purchase’ system and Gfresh’s own payment service, GPay, have improved the commerce experience while adding security for buyers and sellers. HEATHROW revealed last month that fresh salmon is the number one export by weight via the airport, accounting for 46,000 tonnes over the past 12 months.
Heathrow’s UK Customs data also found that more than £7 billion worth of British exports via Heathrow travelled to China between August 2014 and July 2015, representing a 117 per cent increase on the previous 12 months and over 15 per cent of total UK exports via Heathrow by value - further highlighting the significance of the Anglo-Chinese relationship.
If the value of Britain’s exports to China via Heathrow continues to grow at its current rate, it would overtake the US as the airport’s biggest UK export destination within two years.
Some £48 billion worth of British goods were exported through Heathrow between August 2014 and July 2015, a 9.7 per cent increase on the previous 12 months, and representing 26 per cent of all UK exports by value.
