Farm will bring jobs to Orkney

SCOT­TISH Sea Farms is to ex­pand its busi­ness in Orkney af­ter win­ning plan­ning ap­proval for a new site at Wester­bis­ter.

The com­pany will in­vest more than £3 mil­lion in the farm, which will see the cre­ation of six new jobs and sig­nif­i­cantly in­crease pro­duc­tion.

The Wester­bis­ter site will con­sist 16 x 100m cages, with con­sent for 1,791 tonnes of salmon pro­duc­tion, mak­ing it the se­cond largest Scot­tish Sea Farms site in Orkney.

SSF re­gional man­ager Richard Dar­byshire said: ‘This is re­ally good news for both Scot­tish Sea Farms and the lo­cal com­mu­nity.

‘This plan­ning ap­proval has been the cul­mi­na­tion of four years of con­sul­ta­tion and hard work.’t
