THE Chilean government announced new regulations in June to improve control of its salmon farming industry.

These include reducing farming densities, revising fallowing policies and increasing production periods to avoid concentrations of harvests at the same time.

Management zones will be introduced and farmers who expand production by more than three per cent in a given cycle will be punished.

The measures, expected to be implemented later his year, also cover containment and waste management.
