‘FORGING new frontiers’ is the theme of the US convention on fish farming, Aquaculture America, to be staged in San Antonio, Texas, later this month.

Celebrating US aquaculture’s pioneering spirit, the plenary speakers will talk about the industry’s future from the perspective of the millennial generation.

The first speaker, Dr Jonathan Van Senten – a recent PhD graduate in Aquaculture Economics from the Uni- versity of Arkansas at Pine Bluff - will share his insights into how his generation sees the path forward.

The second speaker, Dr Sally Rockey, is the executive director of the Foundation for Food and Agriculture Research. She will provide a perspective on the future of private-public partnerships as a model for funding aquaculture research.

Finally, Dr Aoife Lyons, Alltech’s director of Educational Initiatives and Engagement, will talk about ‘Communication across Generations… Implications for Sustainability’.

She will explain how a better understanding of the sector’s workforce, supporting the industry by funding innovative research, and communicating the value of products is essential to forging new frontiers in aquaculture.

Aquaculture America provides a forum to bring together research and industry, as well as 14 aquaculture organisations from around the country.

This year’s conference features producer meetings, diverse technical sessions, educational workshops, and a comprehensive trade show.

The conference, at the San Antonio Marriott Rivercenter, runs from February 19-22.
