Fire de­stroys Brit­tany fac­tory

MA­RINE Har­vest’s smoked salmon plant in Brit­tany was de­stroyed by fire last month. The blaze spread rapidly, de­stroy­ing al­most all the fa­cil­i­ties, in­clud­ing the 7,000 m² pro­duc­tion sec­tion at the Krit­sen fac­tory in Lan­di­visiau.

The fire started in the south-west sec­tion of the build­ing, for causes that are be­ing in­ves­ti­gated, and quickly spread to the eastern sec­tion, ac­cord­ing to re­ports.

The 146 em­ploy­ees who were at the site were evac­u­ated safely, but two fire­men ex­pe­ri­enced mi­nor in­juries.

The plant was founded in 1994 and has been a sub­sidiary of Ma­rine Har­vest since 2006. It is a fish pro­cess­ing com­pany known mainly for its smoked salmon, em­ploy­ing more than 300 peo­ple, plus a fur­ther 200 tem­po­rary em­ploy­ees dur­ing peak pe­ri­ods.
