INDEPENDENT Scottish salmon farmer Loch Duart has scooped the Exporter of the Year prize at the 2019 Insider Made in Scotland Awards, held in Glasgow last month.

Loch Duart’s success in exporting to 20 countries and its strong trade with chefs and restaurants around the world was recognised at the awards night, staged at the Glasgow Science Centre and hosted by comedian Fred MacAuley.

Based in Sutherland and the Uists, the salmon producer has seen its export sales grow by 68 per cent over the last two financial years, to an alltime high for the business.

Chief executive Alban Denton said of Loch Duart’s triumph:‘We are so proud that Loch Duart has been named Exporter of the Year at the Insider Made in Scotland Awards.

‘We’re a small company with big ambitions and this is a success we share with our loyal customers around the world. ‘From our amazing team at the farms in Sutherland and the Uists, to the staff at all our offices in Scotland and France, we work hard to ensure that our customers get the Loch Duart salmon they love on to the menus of restaurants and hotels across the globe. Thanks to everyone that helped us win this award.’

Loch Duart has recently made significant capital investment to support the growth of the business, including more than three quarters of a million pounds on fish health and welfare and over £3 million on boats, feeding equipment and other assets.
