Loch Duart wins top ex­port prize

IN­DE­PEN­DENT Scot­tish salmon farmer Loch Duart has scooped the Ex­porter of the Year prize at the 2019 In­sider Made in Scot­land Awards, held in Glas­gow last month.

Loch Duart’s suc­cess in ex­port­ing to 20 coun­tries and its strong trade with chefs and restau­rants around the world was recognised at the awards night, staged at the Glas­gow Sci­ence Cen­tre and hosted by co­me­dian Fred MacAu­ley.

Based in Suther­land and the Uists, the salmon pro­ducer has seen its ex­port sales grow by 68 per cent over the last two fi­nan­cial years, to an all­time high for the busi­ness.

Chief ex­ec­u­tive Al­ban Den­ton said of Loch Duart’s tri­umph:‘We are so proud that Loch Duart has been named Ex­porter of the Year at the In­sider Made in Scot­land Awards.

‘We’re a small com­pany with big am­bi­tions and this is a suc­cess we share with our loyal cus­tomers around the world. ‘From our amaz­ing team at the farms in Suther­land and the Uists, to the staff at all our of­fices in Scot­land and France, we work hard to en­sure that our cus­tomers get the Loch Duart salmon they love on to the menus of restau­rants and ho­tels across the globe. Thanks to ev­ery­one that helped us win this award.’

Loch Duart has re­cently made sig­nif­i­cant cap­i­tal in­vest­ment to sup­port the growth of the busi­ness, in­clud­ing more than three quar­ters of a mil­lion pounds on fish health and wel­fare and over £3 mil­lion on boats, feed­ing equip­ment and other as­sets.
