GREEN SKILLS
Around one in every 10 British workers will need to retrain or reskill if the UK is to reach its goal of net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, a new analysis suggests.
Approximately three million posts would be negatively affected by the necessary shift to green jobs, said campaign group UK100, although a similar number of new green jobs would be created, following a resilient recovery to the ongoing coronavirus crisis. Polly Billington, director of UK100, said the government and industry need to ensure that recovery is not car- or carbon-led. “There is a huge opportunity here to skill up our workforce and invest in the jobs we need right now.”
