Two-spirit

Paul Ross refers to Sheldon Nunez-Velarde’s identity of twospirit as being gay [ FT361:42]. While Nunez-Velarde may well identify as gay, two-spirit does not normally carry this meaning within Native American culture. It generally means that the person sees themselves as both male and female, irrespective of their biological sex, and also has specific cultural meaning and place for some Native American peoples.
