“The sea­son takes its toll on mind and body. I urge play­ers to give them­selves two weeks of full rest be­fore start­ing light ex­er­cise. Dur­ing that time you’ll lose a size­able amount of top end fit­ness – the abil­ity to do re­peated sprints. The key is to main­tain your base fit­ness with steady 30-minute runs and ac­tiv­i­ties like cy­cling and swim­ming. In pre-sea­son you’ll get the chance to re­gain that top end fit­ness.”
