This fashionable restaurant and bar high on the hills of eastern Paris near the Parc de Belleville attracts the crowds thanks to its views and authentic, great-value cuisine. Tasty dishes include marinated beef with mashed carrots and avocado, and salmon-laden brunches. The terrace is large enough to host rock, jazz and blues concerts, held on Sunday afternoons and on selected evenings from May to September. If you are not dining, pop in for a kir royale, pastis or rosé and watch the sun set behind the Eiffel Tower. 1 Rue des Envierges, 75020 Paris Metro: Pyrénées (line 11) moncoeurbelleville.com

Occupying an Art-deco building in the heart of Montmartre, this refined hotel is renowned for its relaxed atmosphere and for having one of the best rooftop terraces in the capital. Take the lift or climb the 127 steps to the seventh-floor, where a restaurant and bar look on to a dappled outdoor space decorated with patio shrubs, cushioned banquettes and swing seats. The terrace is open to diners during the day, but is reserved for bar service in the evenings. Prices are high (the 16 signature cocktails cost €17) but you have the bonus of stunning 180° city views. 12-14 Rue Joseph de Maistre, 75018 Paris Métro: Blanche (line 2)

Located in a converted railway station near Porte d’auteuil, this Italian brasserie boasts a new rooftop terrace that has the makings of a Tuscan villa retreat, with green vegetation, wicker chairs and printed cushions. The food includes mini-pizzas, arancini (stuffed rice balls), burrata (cheese made from mozzarella and cream) and indulgent Italian ice cream, which go perfectly with a cocktail from the huge outdoor bar. The terrace’s west-facing position means that it is splashed in sunshine in the evening, the perfect time to unwind, as the resident DJ creates a Riviera party feel after dark. 78 Rue d’auteuil, 75016 Paris Métro: Porte d’auteuil (line 10) auteuil-brasserie.com
