Paris By the Book Liam Callanan HQ, £12.99 Sitting behind the counter of a seemingly picture-perfect Paris bookshop is an American woman tormented by her husband’s sudden disappearance. After he walked out of their Wisconsin home early one morning and never returned, the only clue Leah Eady has to her partner Robert’s whereabouts is a crumpled note in a cereal box. Her hunt takes her to Paris, where she takes over a decrepit bookshop after finding his unfinished manuscript, which is also set in the City of Light. In his latest foray into fiction, Callanan, a creative writing professor at the University of Wisconsin-milwaukee, paints a vivid picture of a troubled marriage poignantly played out in one of the world’s most romantic cities.
