1 RESTAURANT LAMARTINE, BOURDEAU

France - - BON APPÉTIT -

With 32 Michelin-starred restaurants located in Savoie Mont Blanc, holding a total of 46 stars between them, the only dilemma is which one do you choose? Restaurant Lamartine, awarded one star, has been run by chef Pierre Marin and his wife Marie-christine since 1997 and has been in the family since 1964. The restaurant enjoys a spectacular location with far-reaching views over the Lac du Bourget, which also offers a bounty of fresh fish for the menu. We made the most of the vista with a glass of champagne on the terrace along with an appetiser of dainty fried perch with tartare sauce and a gougère, before moving inside to the stylish dining room.

While some of our party tucked into escargots, others, myself included - as a vegetarian - enjoyed a flavoursome dish of mushrooms scattered with hazelnuts, an edible soil and cheese tuile. For the next course, a colourful plate of beetroot, mozzarella and tarragon garnished with walnut arrived. More delicious wild mushrooms followed, this time served with artichoke and drizzled in foam. A steak of vegetables with tomato salsa completed the wonderfully creative savoury meat-free selection.

A refreshing sorbet of orange and basil prepared us for the arrival of the cheese trolley, while the pièce de résistance was a decadent dark chocolate dessert ( chocolat noisettes) presented with a spun sugar decoration.

Before you leave, make sure to enjoy a digestif in the cosy lounge – Génépi is the local tipple. You can even buy one of the nightlights used to decorate the tables to take home as a reminder of your fantastic evening. The menu starts at €60 for four courses, including a mise en bouche and petits fours. RN504, Bourdeau, 73370, Le Bourget du Lac Tel : (Fr) 4 79 25 01 03 lamartine-marin.com
