Sometimes, finding your dream property might mean making a few compromises. You might not get that panoramic view but gain an extra bedroom or bag an amazing location but forego the big garden.

With this property, located just above Evian-les-bains in Haute-savoie, you don’t have to compromise on anything. The traditional Savoyard chalet was originally built in 1965 but extensively renovated between 2010 and 2014. The resulting property is a blend of traditional Alpine style – particularly in the use of wood cladding outside and in – and sleek, modern comforts, with big windows and glass doors flooding the interior with light.

The chalet has three spacious and modern bedrooms, all with ensuite bathrooms, so there’s plenty of room for a family or for staying guests wanting a certain amount of privacy. There is a big open-plan living area, with the kitchen opening onto a dining area, which in turn opens onto the lounge. The big, central fireplace is sure to provide the large room with a lovely cosy atmosphere on cold winter evenings.

When it’s hot and sunny however – Evian-les -Bains gets properly warm in the summer with average temperatures hovering around 26°C in July and August – you could step out onto one of the two balconies. The lower one wraps around most of the living room, which has a set a glass doors leading onto it; the upper one is accessed from the bedrooms on the top floor.

From there, you can stop and admire the breathtaking view over Lac Léman (also known as Lake Geneva for Anglophones), so huge it could easily be confused with a small sea, with the opposite banks just discernable thanks to the mountains on the horizon.

In total, you have a comfortable 170m2 of living space inside but the real bonus is the vast garden (5,335m2) which has different levels for you to enjoy now and transform at your leisure. Not only that, but the house is located in a very peaceful spot in the middle of the forest so it is entirely private.

Nevertheless, the centre of Evian-les-bains is just five minutes away. This chic spa town on the shores of the lake first became known for its natural spring waters in the 1790s – it’s home, of course, to the Evian bottled water company – and there are many spas here, particularly in the luxury hotels

With the mountains as a spectacular backdrop and the lake spilling out in front, it is a very green and pleasant town to spend time in. It’s also a great base for outdoor activities in the Alps. Further afield, yet still in reasonable commuting distance, are the Swiss towns of Montreux and Geneva, providing excellent work opportunities if needed at about a 45-minute drive from the property. The chalet is on the market for €795,000 euro

The property blends a traditional Alpine feel and sleek, modern comforts, with large windows flooding the interior with light
