French property dreams
A luxury chalet in the popular Alpine ski resort of Méribel
Like the open ocean and endless sand dunes in a desert, mountains are awe-inspiring forces of nature. They make us feel tiny and powerless and yet we are irresistibly attracted to their jagged peaks and snow-topped summits. Whether for skiing in the winter or hiking in the summer, a house in the French Alps is the dream for those of us who love to be outside and in close connection to unspoilt and somewhat wild nature.
Which is why chalets are the perfect fit for mountain enthusiasts, and this example is in a prime location to explore the Alps. Plus it has a fair few creature comforts.
Alpine chic Located in Le Villard in the village of Méribel, Chalet Apsara was finished in 2014 and rented out through MGM’S luxury collection of holiday properties but it is now on the market. It was built in a traditional style using wood and stone and it looks like a true Savoyard farmhouse. Inside, however, is another story.
Shiny steel, glass and raw wood bring a definite contemporary twist to the interiors, which are not only elegant but very roomy: a total of 400m2 of living area is yours to enjoy. There’s a wonderful sense of space, partly thanks to the superb double-aspect main living area with floor-to-ceiling windows and overlooked by a mezzanine. This open-plan space includes a modern kitchen with built-in appliances, a spacious dining area and a cosy lounge with a fireplace where you can relax, warm up after a day on the slopes or rest your aching feet after a long hike.
The four double bedrooms are set on the lower level of the chalet. The master bedroom has its own ensuite bathroom and private terrace, and a gym, jacuzzi and steam room are also on this floor.
Unrivalled location The chalet is set a little away from the madding crowds in the resort but has stunning views of the mountains, particularly of the Dent de Burgin summit looming over the valley.
“Chalet Apsara is located on the edge of Les Allues, which is the original old village in the Méribel valley and remains very authentic and

unspoilt,” says MGM’S director Richard Deans. The nearest stop to reach the cable-car to the slopes is 1km away but that means peace and quiet when you want it.
Of course, the skiing in the area is excellent. Méribel is in the heart of the mega Trois Vallées ski area which boasts 600km of ski runs to explore and there is a wealth of summer activities, from hiking and fishing to mountain biking and paragliding.
“Whether you are an avid skier, an outdoor enthusiast, a lover of extreme sports, or just looking for the perfect Alpine destination, Méribel offers an unrivalled experience all year round,” says Richard.
