Unavailability fails to disrupt Timsbury in ten-wicket performance

-

Despite being without a number of regular first team players, Timsbury romped to a convincing ten wicket win at Clevedon 2nd in Division One of the Bristol & District League.

The home side were dismissed for 86, before acting captain Mark Sage (42*) and Greg Passingham (33*) guided Timsbury to victory in 18.2 overs. Earlier, the Timsbury spinners had set up the win as Martin Richards recorded an impressive 4-6 in 4.1 overs, while Jon Strand took 2-16 and Sam Hoddinott 2-24.

Timsbury exited the Somerset Intermediate Cup on Tuesday at the hands of Whitchurch.

Having put their hosts into bat, Timsbury managed to bowl Whitchurch out for 139 with five balls of the 20 overs remaining. Kevin Sibley and Martin Richard both picked up a couple of wickets apiece.

Despite batting through their allocation, Timsbury finished 27 runs short on 112-5, despite good knocks from Sol Thompson (33*) and Mike Sage (38).

■ Timsbury’s second side found it tough going at home to Bristol Aces in Division Five and were beaten by eight-wickets.

In a rain-affected match, TimsRiver bury totalled 100-8 in their 33 overs via contributions from George Webb (21), acting skipper Adam Workman (20) and Neil Hulford (20).

The visitors raced to victory in 15.5 overs.

■ MN METHODISTS welcomed Bitton 2nd to Norton Hill School. Heavy rain delayed the start for 45 minutes, before Bitton soon found themselves in trouble after the innings finally got underway.

Having lost a wicket to the third ball of the game, Bitton faced accurate bowling from Daniel Shearn and Stuart Green which gave the batters little to hit. Combined with tidy work from wicket-keeper Dave Sackett the fielders, Methodists kept the run-scoring to a minimum.

Shearn (3-12) and Green (2-7) continued to chip away with wickets at regular intervals as Bitton slumped to 18-5 inside 13 overs. A change of bowling saw Charlotte Hazell (2-13) claim another couple of wickets, before Bitton’s tail delayed the inevitable with some spirited resistance. Mark Robinson (2-8) eventually wrapped up the innings after 24.3 overs, with Bitton posting a modest 55 all out.

After a quick turnaround, MethGregory. odists skipper Alex Nash survived an early scare as he was dropped off the first delivery. This turned out to be a costly error as, after a few more sighters, he continued his recent good form and began to chase down the total.

Fourteen runs from the third over and 18 from the fifth made short of the task as Nash (44*) helped the hosts cruise to a tenwicket victory in just 7.2 overs.

■ CHILCOMPTON SPORTS After the washout of their fixtures in the Bristol & District League on Saturday, the Sunday side travelled to North Bristol and asked their hosts to bat.

Opening bowlers Dan Rogers and Henry Purchase failed to make any inroads, with young Aaron Stansfield making the only breakthrough before drinks. With North Bristol on 115-2, Chili vice-captain Gareth Rogers managed the first wicket after drinks.

From there, the hosts started teetering and the introduction of the younger Luke Stansfield saw wickets begin to fall at regular intervals as he ended with an excellent 4-18 from his six overs. Chris Glover returned to skittle another batter, before skipper Gillard brought himself back to claim the final wicket as North Bristol ended on 243.

After the break, Chili’s innings proved one to largely to forget. With no-one really troubling the scores, Chili were bowled out for a measly 34 in 16 overs. They welcome Bradley Stoke on Sunday.

■ The under-15 Chili Heat side returned from a two-week hiatus due to the weather to get their home season underway against Bradford on Avon.

Chili skipper Dan Rogers opted for him and Mal Love to bowl first, however Bradford were quickly on the offensive.

Despite Rogers’ frugal opening spell of three overs for five runs, it wasn’t until debutant Max Steeds entered the fray in the tenth over that the first wicket arrived.

Following the clean bowled with his first ball, Steed eventually finished his four overs with 2-25 after taking another clean bowled.

With the previous game’s fivewicket hero unable to take further victims, Cory Hawkins produced a superb display with great rhythm, line and length to take two wickets thanks to fine catches from Rogers and Steeds. Further wickets from Isaac Emery (1-5-1) and the returning Rogers (4-10-1) stunted the run rate as Bradford finished with an impressive 139-6, having been 69-1 after ten overs.

In reply, and requiring seven an over, Chili lost Love (10) and number three Zak Gloudemans (9), despite a pair of well-struck boundaries for both. The chase’s defining partnership was Rogers and Zalal, who pushed the scored on only marginally behind the required rate.

Having made 55 together, including an 18-run over from Rogers which included his first ever six, he eventually succumbed for an excellent 30.

With Zalel still there, wickets fell at regular intervals as Steeds, Hawkins and Hancock all came and went in quick succession - the latter scoring eight from three balls. Ollie Glover joined Zalel (21*) to finish the innings as Chili went past three figures for a respectable 1056, 34 runs short.
