Sony Playstation 5

RRP: £360 - Digital Version £450 – Standard Version

-

Size wise it may be the biggest ever modern console to date but there’s no denying that the new PlayStation 5 with its striking white curves, sleek DualSense controller, and powerful new internal hardware looks set to usher in a new era of next-gen gaming. Sporting a custom AMD processor and a new powerful graphics card capable of playing games in 4K at 120fps, you also get a and solid-state drive and an evolved user interface with neatly organised icons.

The DualSense controller stands heads above any other controller ever seen with its strong rumble pack, adaptive trigger buttons and sensitive microphone port that you can blow into and get a response from, depending on the game of course. Capcom have announced that they’ll be making use of the new DualSense features in the upcoming Resident Evil 8 we can only hope other developers will do the same.

The console comes in two flavours, digital and standard. The digital version has no disc drive and costs around £360 while the standard version, which is the same under the hood, does have a disc drive and costs an eye watering £450. Both come with controllers and all the necessary leads you’ll need along with a stand that allows you to stand the system vertically.

There’s no denying that we are bordering on PC territory here and while it’s not as powerful as its Xbox rival, the PS5 still manages to squeeze every ounce of power and performance out of its components which in turn leads to better looking games and higher frame rates which no PlayStation fan will complain about.
