Sega Megadrive Mini

RRP: £60

-

With the success of Nintendo’s NES and SNES mini consoles it was only a matter of time before Sega entered the market in what almost feels like the console wars of old, but this time around its Sega that have made what many feel is the best mini console yet.

Now forget all those other Megadrive collections and consoles that have appeared over the years, the Megadrive Mini is the real deal and blows every previous attempt at recreating this classic console right out the water.

With no less than forty-two in-built games on offer and HDMI inputs allowing you to connect your mini console to modern HD televisions, this is a Sega fan’s nostalgic dream come true. Smaller, yet packed full of detail featuring all the original buttons and switches and even an openable cartridge slot — although don’t expect to fit an original game cartridge in as its purely for show. Some notable games included are Sonic 2, Comix Zone, Streets of Rage 2,

Earthworm Jim, Gunstar Heroes and Castlevania: Bloodlines.

The console also comes with two original three button controllers with USB connectors instead of the old 9-pin ones. With the inclusion of games like Street Fighter 2 it would have been nice to have one of the six button controllers included, but that may yet come.

Overall, the Megadrive Mini is just as every bit as good, if not better, than its Nintendo counterparts and it has double the games. Nintendo may have won the overall console war but in the battle for the mini supremacy, its Sega who are definitely out in front.
