Plant identification
What’s this tall, leafy plant that has suddenly appeared?
CHRIS BIRCH AND DAVID MORLEY, BY EMAIL
This is Scrophularia aquatica or water figwort – a large leafy perennial with intriguing but small, liver-red flowers, which unfortunately are attractive to wasps! There is a variegated form that’s worth a place in the garden, but the plain green one is too large and not bright enough to deserve a place in all but the largest garden.
