What’s eating my neighbour’s shrub?

-

NIGEL PUDDY, BY EMAIL

These nibble marks are made by viburnum beetles. Both the adults and their grubs eat the foliage, leaving a lacy outline. Your neighbour should spray with insecticide in early summer, and prune the shrub hard in spring to promote new, unaffected leaves.
