PHYSALIS ALKEKENGI

-

The bright orange papery bracts of this herbaceous perennial are also known as Chinese lanterns. Looking like mini pumpkins, they appear in late summer and autumn, each one enclosing small red berries. It’s robust and can be a little invasive, so try growing in a container or dig out surplus stems. You can use the seedheads for craft projects or dried flower arrangements – a handy way to use up any extra stems. H75cm (30in) S90cm (3ft)
