Protect soil from erosion

If you have bare areas of soil on your vegetable beds, cover the ground with a layer of cardboard or landscape fabric and weigh it down with bricks or sections of wood so that it doesn’t blow away. This will protect the soil from erosion and the loss of nutrients caused by heavy winter rain. It will also stop weed seeds from germinating and help it to warm up more quickly in spring.
