Q Why has a green shoot appeared on my variegated liquidambar?
NIGEL PUDDY, BY EMAIL
A This shoot has reverted back to the plain green form. It’s best to remove this green stem as soon as possible, right back to the point from where it arose. Reverted shoots are more vigorous than the desired, variegated foliage. If left they can go on to dominate the tree, which is why it’s best to take prompt action to remove it with sharp secateurs.
