Q Why has a green shoot ap­peared on my var­ie­gated liq­uidambar?

A This shoot has re­verted back to the plain green form. It’s best to re­move this green stem as soon as pos­si­ble, right back to the point from where it arose. Re­verted shoots are more vig­or­ous than the de­sired, var­ie­gated fo­liage. If left they can go on to dom­i­nate the tree, which is why it’s best to take prompt ac­tion to re­move it with sharp se­ca­teurs.
