A tapestry of gold, calendars & diaries, bark, plants in flower now, gorgeous galanthus and our lookalikes quiz

This upbeat winter planting scheme brings a vibrant sunny note to any garden, whatever the weather! Not everyone loves a flash of winter gold, but you can’t deny it does help to herald spring; a sight for sore eyes after weeks of winter wet and cold. The dainty snowdrop here is galanthus ‘Magnet’, renowned for its ability to dance on the lightest breeze. These are surrounded by Eranthis hyemalis (winter aconites), which are obviously thriving in this sunny spot, weaving a river of gold among mossy stones, ferns and logs. All these charming little woodlanders prefer a humus-rich soil – so mulch in late spring with lashings of leafmould.
