Moss for sale

Those of us with lawns rich in moss will be interested to see it’s now on sale at the garden centre... Hailed as a lowmaintenance, shade-loving plant ideal for a Japanese style garden, moss can be bought in carpets, cushions or (in the US) as a water-on ‘milkshake’. Yet moss is notoriously difficult to transplant and establish, so take care what you’re buying and check it’s been sustainably sourced (it’s an offence to gather it from the wild). It might be easier to gather up the pieces that fall off your roof because you know they’re drought tolerant, compared to lawn moss, which likes damp, shady conditions.
